Thanksgiving is Claire's favorite holiday. She gave thanks for: plenty of food, plenty of sleep and plenty of doting relatives - Grandma Hoyer, Aunt Ellen, Uncle Greg, Grandma and Grandpa Cooper, Great-grandma and -grandpa Koch and of course, Maddie (the rabbit).

Dear Claire's Mommy and Daddy,
Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone and The Shopping Days are upon us, we can all now begin hoping that we can soon be giving thanks for the greatest gift of all: a Playstation 3.
Unfortunately, our latest spending review here at North Pole Enterprises (a Division of Wal-Mart Inc.) indicates that we will need to seek immediate financing to address our negative cash flow and to fund development of our new Fox series, "When Good Elves Turn Bad". Therefore, to avoid larger budget cuts or even lay-offs, we will be forced to make drastic cuts to the number of requests we can fulfill from this year's Christmas lists.
Hence, the purpose of this letter. Your daughter Claire has requested a minimal number of Christmas presents this year, which we always appreciate, especially from such a cute child who clearly deserves more gifts than other kids who are much less cute. However, there is one request which we will be unable to fulfill. Claire has asked that her mom and dad accompany her on a fabulous Spring vacation to sunny San Diego, CA, where she can do all the things she can't do in the cold, cold midwest, such as sun herself on the beach, swim with dolphins, and most importantly, visit old friends.
Now, just because we cannot deliver this gift to your wonderful daughter, doesn't mean she should have to go without during this holiday season. Afterall, don't you want to provide your child with only the very best? Therefore, since you are likely to want to send Claire to college someday anyway (sooner then you'd like to think), we believe this is the perfect opportunity to introduce you to the concept of Expected Family Contribution. The EFC is a measure of your family's financial strength and is calculated according to a formula established by law. Your family's income (taxable and untaxed), assets, and benefits (for example, unemployment or Social Security) are all considered in determining your EFC. Based on this information (obtained frighteningly easily from the internet), we have estimated your EFC to be 70%. The remaining 30% will be provided to you as financial aid in the form of lodging, local transportation, and, of course, complimentary bourbon for the duration of your stay.
So, all you have to do to make this the best Christmas Claire has ever had, is purchase roundtrip airfare for two (Claire is actually free, since she's so cute) to San Diego International Airport. Then ask her grandparents to buy her a tiny bathing suit and sunglasses and let the sun, sand and sea do the rest.
