Sleeping like a preschooler

Switching the default view of our blog to the "flipcard" view has definitely made me flip through and see old pictures and posts more often (if you can't tell by my last few posts!)

We had posted this picture of Lise napping in an odd position a couple weeks ago:

Tonight I happened to notice we had a very similar picture of Claire napping from about 3 years ago:

Sometimes you're just too tired to make it completely onto the bed, I guess.

Three little girl faces at 7/8 months old

Our girls don't look anything alike, I don't know what you're talking about.

Will thought I should do this post just with their faces and it might make it harder, but I don't think so.  This is so easy, I'm not even going to put the answers here.

Sage - 8 months old

IMG_7667

Already 8 months old!

A little about her and a few other pictures:  Her sleep habits are improving, and she's eating a tiny bit more solids, though still is not as interested as the older two were at this age.

She's starting to push herself forward in a crawling motion, not exactly an army crawl, but close.  She can get where she wants to go.

She hasn't learned the pincer grasp yet, but she's working hard at that, giving us notice that once  mastered we will have to vaccuum a lot more often!

IMG_7665

Her favorite thing to do is watch her sisters, preferably while chewing on something (paper would be ideal - a sister's 'special' paper? even better!)

She's still remarkably good natured, only getting a bit crabby if she's missed a nap or needs to sleep, but even that is fairly mild, especially if there's something exciting going on to watch (aka - sisters).

I don't know what she weighs, but at 7 months she was 16 lb 13 oz (50% percentile) and in the 95% for height!

Can't believe there's only 4 months until her first birthday!

A little about Lise

I can't believe how much older she seems in the last few months!  She and Claire play very well together (most of the time) and are definitely more 'equals' in deciding the rules of the imaginary games they are playing. It used to be that Claire would set everything up ("I'm the mom, you're the kid, and ...") but these days Lise is just as likely to set things up or throw in important plot twists.  They both know very well how to push each other's buttons though, which happens more frequently on some of these long, hot summer days!

She's just as interested in Claire's long chapter books as Claire is and very happy when Claire (or Will or I) will read them to her, but she also looks through them on her own.  She can easily write an "L" for Lise, and sometimes the other letters (or something close) if helped with the order.

As I write this Lise is still talking with Claire in their room when they are supposed to be sleeping - it's 9pm and they've been in there since 7:30pm. Sometimes I think it's their favoriate part of the day, but it's about time I go break things up for the night!

Strange sleep position

This is a quick way to jumpstart the rest of your day - especially important when running through the sprinkler is planned for after naptime.

Cousin visit!

IMG_7632

My girls had a great time on Saturday when their only first cousin came to visit for the day!  This is not the best picture, but we were busy playing and only took a couple - however there were two other cameras going crazy when they were all outside and in the sprinkler and on the swing set, so maybe a few of those will be shared?  Anyway, it was a fun day and we're very glad the Elsie and her dad could make it down for the day!

Books to sisters

Okay, I've probably already posted a couple dozen posts about this already, but I can't help but share a few more pictures - at least I know the grandmas will want to see them, everyone else can keep on going down their blog reader.

Which way?

I've never edited a picture before where I can't decide which way I want to be 'up.'  So I'm putting all of them in the post.  I think it almost looks like a different picture depending on which way it's turned.  What do you think?

Another weekend trip

This time - North! Where it was a bit cooler (but only because the cold front went through Friday night, before that it was over 100 there, too!)
It was a great trip to see family!  First, a stop for the older girls (Sage was snacking in the car) to visit the site of their parents' first chemistry joint project (water hardness testing - comparing three different locations, source, middle, and right at the end of the stream).  Anyone recognize the name of this place?

003

Then, in Minnesota: there were good visits with family, but more importantly (for some in the family) there were lots of new toys and also lots of other (second) cousins and kids of houseguests for our girls to play with!  Good thing this was our last weekend trip of the summer, any future hosts would have to round up a couple little boys and five (5!) little girls between the ages of 3 and 8 (or so) for our girls to play with in order to compete (oh, and two older 7th grade and high school girls to draw pictures with, too!)
Mostly we were too busy enjoying to take pictures, but here are a few from the weekend:

Lots of driving tired out some travelers (Sage improved at napping in the car - up to a 30 min nap on the way home! But she still prefers talking and laughing and playing with her feet.)

Patty Cake

You're never too old to play Patty Cake with your Grandma, apparently.  Especially if you and your sister are playing at the same time with one arm each:

Swing Set in use

DSC_0006

Before the weather turned so hot the swing set was getting some good use by the girls. Lise quickly learned to climb up the 'rock' wall all by herself, is learning how to pump on the swing, and loves going down the slide. Claire likes to turn upside down on the rings and use the rope to walk her feet up the rock wall.

Matching Dresses and Skirt

The girls have been asking me to make them more dresses... they love wearing dresses (and fancy flip flops and hair bows - thanks, Grandma Fran!):

IMG_7521
Dresses from Target, hair bows and fancy flip flops from Grandma Fran and Pa!

Longtime readers of this blog may, or may not, remember matching dresses that were made a couple years ago.  The little dress now fits Sage, and the big dress fits Lise... but that leaves Claire feeling quite left out.  So she had been wanting me to make her another dress.

I ended up having enough fabric already on hand in a flower print they both loved and so last week I made them matching dresses and made Sage a little matching skirt.

Here's one picture:

If you want to see a couple other pictures and see more details on the dresses, you can check out my new blog http://iowasummersewing.blogspot.com/ I started it after encouragement from a friend, to share some of my quilting and sewing projects with the two or three people who are interested (I will probably mostly work on the projects and write about them in the summer time - hence the name!).
